This repository contains all materials for the "Decoding Animal Movement" Workshop held from 9 to 13 March 2026. The workshop progresses from introductory concepts to advanced movement modelling techniques. Early sessions focus on getting familiar with movement data, cleaning GPS tracks, and processing spatial information in R, followed by detailed instruction on identifying behavioural states using Hidden Markov Models. As the workshop advances, the materials guide users through the implementation of step‑selection functions in the amt package, the extension to integrated SSFs for applications (e.g. for connectivity), and the modelling of multiple individuals through two‑step and mixed‑model approaches. Later sections of the repository support the work on simulations for estimating utilization distributions, evaluating model performance, and applying state‑switching SSFs or mixed SSAs using glmmTMB and mgcv. Hands‑on work forms a central part of each workshop day, and the relevant scripts, exercises, and data templates are organized to match these sessions so participants can easily follow the workflow or adapt it for their own datasets.
